VALHALLA OPERA CLUB WHO SHOULD BE A MEMBER: Those who already love opera Those who want to learn more about opera Those who aren’t quite sure what all the passion is all about Those who think that opera is too “highbrow” for them WHAT IS AN OPERA CLUB: Similar to a book club Meets regularly to discuss an opera Operas will be chosen from: · Operas being broadcast in Silver City theatres in HD Live from the Met · Richard Wagner’s monumental der Ring des Nibelungen · Operas being performed by Manitoba Opera · Operas suggested by members of club or discussion leader · Operas that members will be able to see live on a Valhalla Opera Tour WHERE: To be arranged Previous venues have included University Women’s Club and McNally Robinson. WHEN: To be arranged. WHY: Because opera is the culmination of all the arts it impacts on all of the senses—auditory, visual, visceral, intellect, emotion. Opera has the unique ability to portray several concepts at the same time, e.g. Wagner often uses the words to portray thoughts while the music portrays feelings. Music can convey a feeling in seconds. Because June is so passionate about opera, she would like to share this passion with others. Lyric Opera of Chicago Production Wagner's Ring Cycle March 2005 For their 2005 Ring revival, Lyric Opera of Chicago assembled a Valhallan cast - possibly the best Wagner cast assembled in the past 40 years.
